Jehan-Jacques Blancpain

In the year 1735, Jehan-Jacques Blancpain establishes a watchmaking manufactory in his home in the Swiss village of Villeret. He creates innovative improvements to watches and eventually transforms the traditional watchmaking industry. Jehan-Jacques Blancpain’s descendants have continued the tradition. Today, Jehan-Jacques Blancpain has a flagship store in Singapore.

Founded in 1735, Blancpain is one of the oldest watchmaking companies in the world. It was originally a small farm house, but Jehan-Jacques Blancpain eventually expanded the company and turned it into an industrial watchmaker. In the second half of the eighteenth century, Blancpain produced complete watches and sold them all over Europe.

In the wake of the Industrial Revolution, Blancpain flourished. His son Jules-Emile specialized in high-end watches with lever escapements. His son, Frederic-Emile, followed suit. The family’s progressive approach to management was reflected in the company’s use of a Dictaphone to dictate orders. The first watches were powered by water, and Blancpain was able to use water power from the nearby Suze river.

The Blancpain family continued to run the business, but they were no longer directly involved in the business. The company was then incorporated into the Rayville S.A. corporation. This new name, Rayville, is a phonetic anagram of Villeret. This new management kept the Blancpain brand alive with the name. The company was run by Betty Fiechter until she died in 1967, but the name was changed after she passed away.

The Blancpain Manufacture remains committed to making luxury timepieces. Their “1735” wristwatch is one of the most intricate timepieces in history, with complications including a tourbillon, minute repeating function, and an eternal calendar. This watch is not for everyone, but it is a great luxury investment.

Jehan-Jacques Blancpain was a successful businessman. He produced watches under the Blancpain brand and also manufactured watch movements. The success of the company was evident when he released the Fifty Fathoms diving watch in 1953. It was soon adopted and used by divers all over the world. Another success of the Blancpain business was the Ladybird women’s watch in 1956, which featured the world’s smallest round movement.
